Introduction to Euro Disney
As a result of how well Disney’s parks in American had done, the company created an initiative to build a European model in 1972. An Asian Disneyland, located in Tokyo, opened in 1983 and was quite successful. The possible placements for this European Disneyland were cut down to Spain and France, with both countries vying economically for it.
While the Spanish cities offered a climate similar to that of the American parks, Paris was eventually chosen. Paris’s greatest asset in the process was its central location within Western Europe. An agreement with the French government was signed in December of 1985 and construction began three years later. Euro Disney finally opened in April of 1992.
